When the MICHELIN Guide arrived in the Philippines, it brought more than recognition — it brought a measure of excellence that chefs around the world aspire to. For the country’s culinary community, it signals that Filipino dining has reached a level of artistry and refinement that meets the global stage.
The Meaning of a Star
Each MICHELIN star is awarded according to five constant standards: the quality of ingredients, the mastery of cooking techniques, the harmony of flavors, the personality of the chef expressed through the cuisine, and the consistency maintained both throughout the menu and over time.
A single star denotes high-quality cooking worth a stop. Two stars signify excellent cooking worth a detour. Three stars — the highest distinction, not yet awarded in the Philippines — mark exceptional cuisine worth a special journey.
The first MICHELIN Guide Philippines covers Metro Manila, its surrounding regions, and Cebu. In its debut selection, nine restaurants earned star distinctions: one with Two MICHELIN Stars and eight with One Star — a moment that positions the Philippines among the world’s top dining destinations.

The Starred Restaurants
At the pinnacle stands Helm in Makati, led by Chef Josh Boutwood, the country’s first Two-Star restaurant. Known for its structured tasting menus and technical precision, Helm was recognized for its clear culinary identity and elevated execution that marries innovation with restraint.
Eight other establishments received One MICHELIN Star for their outstanding quality and individuality: Asador Alfonso in Cavite, Celera in Makati, Gallery by Chele in Taguig, Hapag in Makati, Inatô in Makati, Kasa Palma in Makati, Linamnam in Parañaque, and Toyo Eatery in Makati. Each represents a different expression of Filipino excellence — from heritage flavors reinterpreted with modern precision to global techniques reimagined through local produce.

The Bib Gourmand
Beyond fine dining, the MICHELIN Guide also highlights restaurants offering exceptional food at outstanding value through its Bib Gourmand category. Twenty-five Philippine establishments were recognized for achieving the same level of craft and consistency while keeping dining accessible.
These are places where authenticity and heart meet technique — kitchens that define the everyday beauty of Filipino dining, where excellence feels both familiar and personal.

The MICHELIN Selected
Completing the Guide’s inaugural list are seventy-four MICHELIN Selected restaurants. Each was chosen for its distinctive quality and character, reflecting the richness of the country’s dining landscape. From contemporary tasting rooms to neighborhood favorites, they paint a picture of a nation whose culinary identity is both diverse and deeply rooted.

More Than Recognition
For Filipino chefs, a MICHELIN honor is not a finish line but an invitation — to refine, to push boundaries, and to carry local flavors onto the global plate. For diners, it is a moment of pride: proof that the Philippines has entered the world’s most discerning conversation on food and craft.
The stars that now shine above our kitchens illuminate more than talent. They reflect a nation’s evolving palate, a community of makers and dreamers, and a shared belief that the Filipino table belongs among the world’s finest.
