alike.com.ph—He may be known as a football player for the national team, a futsal player for the Enderun Titans, a part-time model, and a full-time son to a single mother – but Mathew Custodio is so much more than that.
He was introduced to football at a very young age and has been playing the sport ever since. Mathew Custodio breathes and lives football. It is through this sport where he found his true friends, gave him opportunities, and taught him life lessons to live by.
“I wouldn’t be who I am today without this sport” Mathew said as he shared his story of how he overcame challenges he faced growing up.
Inspired by name of the sports club in Mervill which was established in 1914, Mathew Custodio gave this chapter of his life the title ‘Nomads’. Mathew was part of the sports club Nomads back when he was residing in Mervill where he met friends with the same passion for football. With the definition of the word nomads, Mathew also shared how he and his mother struggled financially and had to move place to place to find better opportunities – making him a one true nomad. It was no easy life for him and his single mother. But Mathew kept his head held high and believed in himself.
His passion for football helped him go through the challenges which he and his mother faced. What inspired him to be optimistic is the people who helped and believed in him and his mother. He shared that these people would tell him about how great his potential is which made him work harder. But what truly inspires him the most is his single mother who single-handedly raised him to be the person he is today.
It was no easy journey for Mathew Custodio, but with the help of his passion for football, his friends, and loving mother, he was able to surpass all the challenges he had to face. Now, he shares the rules of life which he lives by:
Stay True to Yourself
Mathew shares that as we grow up we realize who we truly are and it is important to stay true to ourselves no matter what. Being honest on who we are is what makes us real.
Be Nice
While life can be sometimes a little bit unfair, it is important to be nice and be kind to everyone we meet as each and every one of us is facing different battles.
Roll Your Own Dice
Life is unpredictable. It is important to create our own gambles and make your own decisions as it is part of the learning process.
Set Your Standards High
Set your standards the highest as to make room for improvement. We all continue to learn to be better versions of ourselves.
Stay Humble
Regardless of the success we reach in life, it is essential to stay humble and keep your feet on the ground.
Eat a lot of Food
Lastly, while we keep in mind the values and live by it, it is important to also take care of our bodies by eating a lot of food!
Mathew Custodio is truly an inspiration to us all. Just like any of us, he faced many challenges yet kept his head held high which made him surpass these obstacles. He reminds us to keep going and always be hopeful because there are a lot of reasons to be.
