5 Timeless Trends from The 90s To Inspire Your Wardrobe

When the term je ne sais quoi comes to mind, my mind immediately wanders into the 90s. Scrolling through my Pinterest feed and discovering classic editorials, I can’t help but admire long-legged supermodels like Christy Turlington effortlessly dawning collections of such rare pieces of art. I almost feel wistful — a sense of nostalgia from a time I’ve never lived in. Back when smartphones were non-existent, there was magic in raw footage of the runway and unintentional photographs caught on film. The nineties was substance, simplicity, elegance, and glamour all at once. Intangible and unforgettable, it was indeed a world on its own. Without further ado, we present to you some iconic styles from the pinnacle of fashion:

Slip Dresses

Dressed up or down, mini or midi, you can never go wrong with this understated staple. Suitable for any occasion, slip dresses accentuate your figure in all the right places and allow you to move with ease. These pieces are romantic, sophisticated, and exude femininity. They’re also perfect for highlighting those collarbones!

A Classic Polo

Whether you’re attending a brunch, that 2:30 meeting, or a night out with the girls, the polo is a versatile piece that can be styled in multiple ways. Pair it with a bold pant or a dainty skirt, this article of clothing surely makes any ensemble look tasteful in an instant. If you’re searching for a piece that strikes a balance between comfort and chic, polos are always reliable for business and leisure. Plus, it’s the best option for when you’re rolling out of bed and rushing out the door!

Modest Wrist Watch

The power of a subtle watch is often underestimated. Though seemingly trivial, a watch incorporates finesse into your look and emulates indescribable grace. Further, it manifests attentiveness and embodies quiet confidence. A polished watch is truly one of the most useful investment pieces you can have. Stay stylish and on schedule by having it with you at all times!

Silk Scarf

Add a little bit of spice! If you love experimenting with your style, collecting scarves may just be your newest hobby. With a wide assortment of patterns, whether it be monochrome or paisley, scarves bring life to your attire. Serving multiple purposes, a scarf can be worn around the neck or as a hairpiece. You can even wrap it around the handle of your purse for an elegant touch!

Little Black Dress

Dating back to 1926, the Little Back Dress was originally conceptualized by none other than Coco Chanel. Vogue has further attributed the style as a “uniform for all women of taste”. Similarly, Audrey Hepburn popularized the dress in 1961 as she stunned in an Italian satin Givenchy dress in one of her most iconic films: “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. Since then, this style has been a source of inspiration for many designers to come and remains as one of the most cherished pieces in women’s closets around the world. Muted, form-fitting, and sultry — the Little Black Dress is a must have.

Although we may no longer re-live the nineties, we can still experience the era’s remnants through fashion. More than an aesthetic, fashion represents art and history in a piece that each of us carries. It’s a bridge to the past– a medium that connects all of us.  I guess you can say that it represents who we were, are, and hope to be.
