We all have those titas and titos pressuring us to marry ASAP (as if we would miss a lot if we don’t). One of the greatest actresses in local showbizness never seemed to be bothered by the nagging thought of marriage at all. She definitely knows best that it’s never too late for settle down—it’s all a matter of being psychologically and emotionally ready.
In case you missed it, Iza Calzado, 36, tied the knot on Wednesday at a beach resort in Coron, Palawan. The lucky groom is none other than Ben Wintle, the British entrepreneur behind popular food and lifestyle app Booky.
Iza looked the most beautiful in a Rajo Laurel gown, paired with a bouquet with a locket that had photos of her late parents, Lito Calzado and Maria Antonia Ussher. Her family and close friends absolutely knew it was a sunset wedding to remember.
The two have been together for more than six years. They got engaged last October 2017. It was indeed a long time of being in the boyfriend-girlfriend stage. But they were the type who fell for each other almost instantaneously. In past interviews, they shared it was “mutual admiration at first sight.”
They happened to be in the right place at the right time. Ben noticed the talented and good-looking Iza while she was hosting an event. He asked their mutual friend, Isabelle Daza about her. Isabelle is that supportive friend who made each other’s lives more entangled. Soon, Ben discovered Iza also got attracted to him the first time they met. They took a chance on each other, and as they say, the rest is history.

You might be asking: What took them so long to get to the next stage? Were there doubts about being each other’s “the one”? Most likely, there wasn’t. They made their individual growth a priority so they could be whole and fulfilled when they say yes to the married life.
Notice how Iza made her way to being an acclaimed actress locally and internationally, with projects that became more of masterpieces because of her performances. Ben, on the other hand, worked hard to have Booky recognized as one of the top apps in the lifestyle scene. Being each other’s source of support and number one cheerleader for the longest time just made the relationship stronger and lovelier.
Truly, there’s no harm in waiting for the right time to commit to a lifetime partnership. There’s no standardized age that dictates when a person is ready to embrace commitment.
You’ll absolutely know it from deep within when you’re matured enough to be someone’s life partner. Seriously, forget about those titos and titas who think you should be building a family at a certain age. Sometimes, they even have the guts to say your ovaries or sexual stamina won’t wait. You have your whole life ahead of you. Whatever they have to say is inconsequential.
Your perfect match is out there. Just remember the lessons from the Wintles: Support and watch your special someone grow into what they’ve always pictured themselves to be. Take your time to get to know each other. But before you can do all that, learn to take a chance on people.
