The global pandemic that put us all in this crazy bubble feels like we have innocently opened our doors one sunny morning to welcome a stranger with no agenda but to rob, ruin, and leave us with paranoia and fear. What's worse is that no door or country is spared, it has affected us all.
But day by day, somehow, this virus makes us feel like it can be fought. But as we painstakingly fight to flatten the curve, an unspoken panic will eventually present itself to us: what happens after 'this'?
Without discounting the fear and worry that envelope each of us, admit it or not, this forced home-quarantine has given us time to actually be at home—trapped in a shell that helped us to go inward: we have established our own way of taking care of ourselves; we have redefined means to cultivate and further ourselves; we have become more aware and present; we have learned to recognize the things that easily escape attention; we slowed down and watched closely as the day stretched itself in front of us.
Given all this, we want to believe that once the restrictions loosen, we will resurface fuller and better. That time outside and away must feel worth it. That we will waste no time to extend and widen our attention for what really matters. That in the ‘new normal’, we will face it without taking anything for granted (and this time, for real). That to ‘seize the day’ will now be true to its meaning.
Where do we go from here? We will soon be standing at the point where too many roads are in front of us, where some signs are blinding, while others are just barely blinking. Nevertheless, let's all choose to take a step forward. Here is to hoping and conscientiously contributing to a better tomorrow for everyone. It will take time, it will be slow, but as long as we take one step forward, we are moving forward to better days.
We may already have directions in mind and our feet may be raring to step outside, but a quick look back to this period that demanded us to carry the value and worth of everything we hold dear and near won’t hurt, if that’s what it takes to go forward.
