With students shifting to remote learning and companies implementing work from home policy, most people started rushing to buy laptops and tablets, ordering different equipment and devices online, attending endless seminars on how to make remote learning possible, non-stop rants as to how hard it is to find a stable Wi-Fi connection, and so on.
In short, the sudden move to digital left most people confused and overwhelmed - especially when it comes to choosing the right device fit for your needs and your budget.
The global tech titan, Huawei, brings another contender in the market that will allow people to cope up with the New Normal productively, efficiently, and smoothly. Huawei introduces the newest member of its tablet line-up - the Huawei MatePad.
Available in one color, The HUAWEI MatePad features a classic Midnight Grey color with a matte coating, giving it a sleek and minimalist look.
The choice to go matte is a good move instead of a glossy one because it gives a more smooth and comfortable feel and does not leave finger marks on the device.
It has a 10.4-inch Full view display with an 84% screen-to-body ratio that is quite ideal for online meetings, movie-binging, and for drawing or writing since the MatePad supports the Huawei M-Pencil.
At the top bezel, you will find the 8MP front camera together with the LED notification, and on the back of the tablet, you will find the 8MP rear camera and LED flash.
When viewed in landscape, the power button is on the upper left side of the device together with the two quad-speakers, while the volume button sits with the quad-microphones on top. Good thing they placed the quad-microphones on top so it can easily detect the audio - especially if you will use it for online meetings and classes.
On the right side of the device, you will find another pair of quad-speakers and the USB-C port. You might notice that there is no audio jack, but do not panic because Huawei included a USB-C adapter that will allow you to use earphones.
You can also insert a nano-sim and a microSD card at the bottom of the device where the card tray lies.
In terms of size, it is lightweight and handy. If you are looking for a tablet that you can easily carry around and does not easily slip off your hands, the Huawei MatePad is perfect for you.
Huawei MatePad’s 10.4-inch screen has a decent 2000 x 1200 resolution, delivering a crisp display good enough for watching videos, playing games, and even reading ebooks.
Speaking of ebooks, it also supports an eBook mode that automatically adjusts the contrast, brightness, and definition to give you a pleasant reading experience.
If you're scared that you might harm your eyes from reading directly on the tablet, don't worry because the MatePad has a TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light Certified display that reduces harmful blue light to protect your eyes.
Equipped with an 8MP Ultra wide front camera positioned on the top of the tablet (when viewed in landscape) and an 8MP rear camera with autofocus and flash, the MatePad cameras are good enough for video calls but don’t expect much.
If you want to take better photos, you might want to use it on well-lit spots because the quality can be noisy and pale in low-light.
For video recording, both front and rear cameras can record at 1080p resolution at 30 fps.
It also has a unique FollowCam feature that allows you to always be in the center of the frame without interruption. It is an impressive feature because it easily tracks your movement and adjusts accordingly.
When it comes to speakers, the Huawei MatePad did not disappoint. With a quad-speaker and quad-channel sound system powered by Histen 6.0 3D stereo and Harman Kardon, the Huawei MatePad delivers an excellent and surprisingly powerful sound.
When Huawei stated that the MatePad brings an impressive sound to you as if you are in a movie theatre or concert hall, they weren’t lying.
Watching films on the MatePad is such a worthwhile and immersive experience, thanks to its speakers!
Performance and other Features
Powered by a Kirin 810 chipset and equipped with a Mali-G52 GPU supported by GPU Turbo Technology and 4GB of RAM, the MatePad delivers a good performance that can keep up with your work/school requirements or even for play. It also has a 64GB with 43.9 GB of usable space. If the storage is not enough for your files, you can just insert a microSD card for additional space.
To make things easier for Huawei users, it also supports a Multi-screen collaboration feature that allows you to project your Huawei smartphone on your MatePad. You can simply connect your Huawei smartphone via bluetooth, NFC, or QR code scanning, allowing you to operate two devices in one.
Aside from this, the MatePad also has a multi-window feature that lets you multitask and run two applications at the same time without any interruption.
It also runs on EMUI 10.1 based on Android 10 and has an AppGallery ready to cater to your application needs. It already has a growing number of applications that you can download in a flash - from games, shopping, and even for your banking needs.
For parents who want to teach their children in a fun way, the MatePad has a Kids' Corner - a child-friendly space where you can let your kids learn and play online. It includes smart features such as blue light filter, time management, and even posture alert. The Kids Corner can assist parents in teaching their little ones - making home learning less stressful and more manageable.
The MatePad has a large 7,250mAh battery that can last up to a whole day or more - depending on what you are doing. It lasted for about roughly 20 hours after long hours of online meetings, social media browsing, netflix breaks, and spotify streams.
The device comes with a 10-watt charger - which is not a fast-charging one and takes quite a while to have it fully charged (approximately 3-4 hours).
Overall, the HUAWEI MatePad priced at Php 20, 990, is actually a good buy. It is a stylish and sleek tablet that you can easily carry everywhere you go - even if you are just staying at home. It has good features, delivers a good performance for your online and offline needs, and has great quality speakers.
The Huawei MatePad is a practical choice if you are looking for a mid-range tablet that will help you be more productive - a great learning/working buddy, every day, all day.
