Who says October is just for Halloween festivities? Calling all art enthusiasts, ManilART is back this Museum and Galleries month!
What is MANILART?
ManilART is the flagship activity for the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA)’s Museums and Galleries Month (MGM), every October.
Now on its eleventh year, ManilART directs the spotlight to Filipino artists who have captivated the world’s stage through their works. The premiere art fair has championed its cause for accessible art by catering to everyone from art collectors to high school students.
Planning to go? Here’s a rundown of what to expect in this year’s ManilART.
Walking Tours led by Art Professionals
Want to learn more about art?
Join the whole day workshop that will be tackling the basic definition of art up to the analytical practice of art criticism. Teachers of Music, Arts and PE (MAPE) from different schools are highly encouraged to join this workshop. Moreover, this is also open for young art enthusiasts who are interested to learn more about art and its complexities. The workshop will be spearheaded by Prof. Gerry Leonardo of the Philippine High School for the Arts.
Art for a cause
ManilART, in partnership with Manila Bulletin, will be hosting Art for Red – an annual fundraising event for the Philippine Red Cross, a humanitarian organization that provides emergency and disaster assistance. There will be a satellite exhibit at the SM Aura Atrium wherein the artworks for charity will be showcased. ManilART’s advocacy is definitely not just limited to the art industry.
'Patay Na Si Jesus' goes to ManilART
The Zonta Club Women’s group will be hosting a film screening of “Patay Na Si Jesus”, a 2016 Cebuano dark comedy film directed by Victor Villanueva. This film follows a story of a mother who learns the death of his estranged husband and drives to Dumaguete together with her children to attend his funeral.
To get to know more about the film, there will also be a Q&A session with the film’s screenwriter and producer, Moira Lang.
In line with the celebration of Museums and Galleries Month, the Subcommission on Cultural Heritage of the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) will hold a Heritage Night - a gathering of different government bodies that were involved with implementing arts and culture projects in the country and plays a crucial role not just in the art fair, but in all MGM-related activities this October.
This year, expect performances by a band of renowned visual artists and even live sketching sessions!
